MOVEMBER - O movimento do bigode

No mês de novembro o movimento MOVEMBER muda a cara dos caras aqui na Austrália (e em outros países também como UK, US, Canadá, New Zealand, Espanha, Irlanda). Voce sai nas ruas e vê os homens de bigode, é uma febre!!! O movimento é todo voltado à saúde do homem; no início do mes, aqueles que se interessam em deixar o bigodão crescer pela boa causa se registram como MO BROS, daí eles devem estar com o bigode raspado e deixar crescer durante todo o mês. Tornando-se um MO BRO, eles recebem donações ($$), e estas vão para instituições como a fundação do cancer de próstata e instituição nacional de depressão do homem. Só no ano passado foram arrecadados 16 milhões de dólares aqui na Australia, isso mostra que o movimento é forte:).

No final deste mes, acontece a festa de gala do MOVEMBER onde os jurados (experts em bigodes, rs)irão julgar o bigode vencedor do ano. Existem várias categorias e vários prêmios, desde a um aparelho de DVD a um carro zero. As mulheres também podem participar como parceiras de seus MO BROS, elas são chamadas de MO SISTAS e também concorrem a prêmios. A abreviação MO vem da palavra "moustache" (bigode) and BRO and SISTAS, irmão/irmã. Aqui algumas fotos (da net) do ano passado:






MOVEMBER is an event that happens here in Australia (and also in another countries as a UK, US, Canada, New Zealand, Spain, Ireland). The main rule is that the guys must shave they moustache, at the beggining of November, and let it grows to raise money for the prostate cancer foundation and the national depression in men initiative. It is all about the men health. They have to register themselves and follow the rules of the event. In the end of the month, there is a big party what they will be judged and might become the MO BRO of the year, winning very interesting prizes such as a brand new car:) The girls can also participate as a MO SISTAR and also win prizes. There is a few categories for the MO BRO and SISTAS to win nice prizes:) Last year the moviment raised 16 million dollars, only here in Australia. Pat and I are not participating, hahaha... I enjoy seeing the guys and their mostauche everywhere I go. My father in law is in this year:) Anyway, I just found out that it happens in US as well...in 3 years that I've lived there I never noticed or heard anything about it. Did you guys know about it??

Tirando o desconforto e a preocupação com a saúde, a bizarra tempestade de poeira que deixou Sydney alaranjada ontem rendeu fotos maravilhosas...eu estava olhando na internet e tem imagens simplesmente fabulosas!!! Deve ter sido uma experiência ímpar andar pela cidade cor de ocre, alaranjada, avermelhada...



The bizzare dust storm that has happened in Sydney yesterday probably made people feel unconfortable and having health concerns but the images are just fabulous!!! What a unique experience would be walking in a orange, red city, wow!!!

Mais uma coisa que eu nunca tinha ouvido falar...contagem de sapos? um censo de sapos? é...eu li no jornal que todo ano, na primavera (setembro), o censo é feito aqui em Melbourne, e é um trabalho voluntário; o interessado se registra e vai lá no lago ou no córrego e grava o "canto" do sapo. Daí eles enviam esta gravação para os ecologistas que vão analisar se este "canto" é de um sapo morador antigo ou se é novo. Dizem que cada sapo tem um canto distinto. Com isto eles tem como analisar se a população de sapos está crescendo ou não e avaliarem a condição ambiental do habitat deles. Acho que seria bacana pra turma de colégio fazer este trabalho do contrário haja paixão pra se voluntariar num trabalho desses, nó...

***Reading the newspaper I found out that here in Melbourne they do a frog census every year on spring (September), and it is a voluntee job. Whoever is interested in it have to register online and them go to the lakes and ponds and recorder the frog's call and send it to the ecologists. They said that each frog has a distinct call so the ecologists can analize the recorders and be sure whether it is from a new or old frog and them figure out if the frog population is increasing or not and judge about the eviroment where they are living. I reckon it would be fun for kids from school to do this job otherwise the people who voluntee for it must be really passion about frogs to go out and recorder its call.

Pra quem (como eu) aprecia o capricho e criatividade nas coisas, tomar um cafezinho em uma das milhares cafeterias espalhadas no centro de Melbourne é um prazer. O café é expresso e com a espuma do leite fervido eles fazem estes desenhos que são um charme!!

If you (like me) appreciate creative and well done things; to get a coffee in one of the "milions" of cafeterias in dowtown Melbourne can be an extra pleasure. The coffee is expresso and playing with the froth, the baristas can serve you with coffee + art. How cool is that?

Meninas, meninas... dá gosto acompanhar o futebol australiano, viu? o jogo é rápido, tem regra simples e muitos gols (nunca é zero a zero). Os jogadores? ah os jogadores...são maravilhosos!!! o uniforme deles é uma camiseta cavada, mais ajustada no corpo e eles mostram estes braços musculosos e usam shorts mais curtos e justos do que nossos jogadores brasileiros. Agora estamos na final do campeonato anual, eu torço pro time do Pat (collingwood) e assisto todos os jogos:) It's fun!!!!!!!!! Eu já tinha comentado aqui sobre o futebol australiano. Agora olha só alguns dos jogadores (nuh!!):



Just want to say that the australian footy players are hot, Oh my god, they are hot! I am not a sport person but now is the footy season and I do wacth the games with Pat as I'm supporting his time (collingwood), what is doing well this season, thanks!. The aussie footy is fast, with a lots of gols in each game, the rules are simple and the players are more then gorgeous. In the 3 years that I've lived in US, baseball has never ever catched my attention, the game is too long, I never tried to understand the rules and the players are monsters, they are huge guys and not atractive to me at all, sorry US!!

Os jardins da minha vizinhança estão mudando completamente com a falta de chuva e a severa restrição no uso da água. O jeito é trocar a grama verde por pedras, grama sintética e plantas nativas. Estas duas fotos de casa com grama são sintéticas/artificiais. Well....a gente tem que se ajustar ao clima e à lei, né? Aqui em casa ainda não modificamos, mas teremos que fazer o mesmo muito em breve. Depois desse verão, ridicularmente quente e seco, a grama morreu quase toda. Eu até acho bonito o jardim com pedras e sem falar que a manutenção é bem mais prática, quase que inexistente:)Desde que Amie faleceu eu não vinha aqui, ela era minha companheira de caminhadas. Ao redor de casa é bem agradável para se caminhar, eu devia aproveitar mais isso...I will:) Hoje foi a primeira vez que encarei fazer um percurso de 20min. Ô peleja! O pior gente é que neste estágio da gravidez a vontade de ir no banheiro é a cada 5min, difícilllllllllllllllllllllll...
Today I've decided to go for a walk, since Amie passed way I haven't been to the lake side of where I live. It is just one block from home (2 min), it is pretty and very nice to walk around, I should do it more often, I will(?)...Have a look at the first lot of pics, it is my neighborhood and in their front yard there is no grass anymore, actually, there is, but it is sintetic grass.

Even that everybody has a water tank in they back yard, it is still hard to maintain the garden looking nice because of the drought, tough water restriction and dry/hot weather:( so for sure that's why people have been changing their front yards. I still think it looks nice but green grass is much prettier. We probably will be doing the same for our home, just have to choose some native plants and some rocks. The good thing is that we won't have much to take care of:)

Sanduíche de Frutas

Foi aqui na Austrália que experimentei, pela primeira vez, um sanduíche de fruta e daí então gamei! super fácil de preparar, é leve e nutritivo. Hoje fiz o meu favorito e resolvi postar aqui como fazer:

- Pão de forma (eu prefiro aqueles de grãos)
- Requeijão (cream cheese)
- Uva passa
- Fatias finas de maçã verde
- Fatias finas de banana

É só passar uma camada generosa de requeijão no pão, salpicar a uva passa em seguida colocar uma camada da maçã fatiada e outra da banana, pronto! é uma delícia!!!
O requeijão pode ser substituído por geléia, nutela ou pasta de amendoim, as frutas também podem variar de acordo com o gosto, uva, damasco, kiwi e manga também fica muito bommmmmmmmmmmm!










The first time I've ever tried a fruit sandwich was here in Austrália and I loved and couldn't stop trying different ways of creating it:) It is light, tasteful and very easy to prepare. To make my favorite one I need:

- Cream Cheese
- Sultanas
- Fine slices of green apple
- Fine slices of banana
- Whole grain bread

Spread a generous amount of cream cheese on the bread, sprinkle the sultanas and put one layer of apple and another of bananas, that's it:) You can also use peanutbutter, nutella or jam instead of cream cheese and even another types of fruit as kiwi, mango or apricot. Enjoy it:)

Campanha de Natal Ateísta

"Provalvelmente não existe nenhum deus. Então pare de se preocupar e aproveite sua vida" Este é o slogan que circulará nos onibus da cidade de Londres no mes de dezembro como campanha de natal dos Ateístas.


A Associação americana Humanista, também está na campanha e os onibus em Washington DC começam a circular esta semana com a frase: “Por que acreditar em um deus? seja simplesmente bom/boa pela bondade em si.”













Quem me conhece, e sabe que sou agnóstica, pode imaginar o tão genial que eu achei esta campanha. Já estou curiosa pra saber a repercursão quando estes onibus começarem a rodar nestas cidades, principalmente nos estados unidos onde a população cristã é de 92%; acho que esta campanha vai causar um "balacobaco", porque, na minha opinião, os religiosos teem uma forte tendencia a se acharem donos da verdade suprema, correta e absoluta. Como, por exemplo, os cristãos heterosexuais na california se sentem no direito absoluto de gozar da vida de forma desigual dos homosexuais, sei não viu...eu acho que o mundo seria melhor se as pessoas fossem mais abertas a igualdade de direitos (de expressão, opção sexual, cor e credo).

Pra mim esta é só mesmo uma campanha, uma linha de pensamento como outra qualquer; como a gente ve tantos cartazes de igrejas com dizeres que eles acreditam por aí, cartazes estes que eu não vejo como ofensivos, não acho que estão tentando ser convincentes nem causar insegurança nas pessoas, é uma auto afirmação de uma forma de pensar. E viva a liberdade de expressão:)

"NO GOD" xmas campaign: Who knows me and know that I'm an agnostic person can imagine how terrific I think this campaign is. I'm already very curious to find out the repercussion about it, I believe the christian people won't be ok with that. The first picture above says: "There is probably no god. Now Stop worrying and enjoy your life" is the slogan that will be on the buses in London for the whole month of december. And the next two pics are the ones what will start to run this week in Washington DC, USA, saying: "Why believe in god? just be good for the goodness's sake". I see it just as a campaign, just an expression of thought, exactly how the churches spread they words everywhere; now is the non teist and agnostic's turn to express themselves. When I read the churches slogans I never think they are ofensive or are trying to convince people or play with they insecures...it is just a thought, doesn't bother me at all. I reckon the world would be a better place if people could deal with the differences with open mind and hearts, I believe we need more equal rights of expression, no matter the thought, the sexual option or color. Cheers for the freedom of speech!!!!!!!!!!!

Melbourne tem uma passado freak com fatos bizarros como por exemplos por uma única noite em 1964, existiu 5 componentes da banda Beatles e aconteceu aqui, em Melbourne. O que ocorreu é que Jimmy Nicol estava como substituto de Ringo Star quando este chegou a Melbourne, em 14 de junho 1964, após se recuperar de um problema de saúde; na manhã seguinte Jimmy voltou para Londres, então, por uma noite Melbourne hospedou 5 Beatles:)

Se tem uma coisa que no Brasil (leia-se Minas) é super comum, e por aqui ninguém reconhece, é o nosso jeitinho de falar por sinais. Sabem do que eu estou falando? sinais que a gente faz sem mesmo pensar...tipo "dar os ombros" quando queremos dizer "eu não sei ou não estou nem aí", fechar e abrir os dedos de uma mão bem rápido, quando queremos dizer que o lugar estava lotado; bater as mãos, uma na outra, quando queremos dizer "tanto faz", apertar os lóbulos da orelha pra dizer que tal coisa está excelente e tantos outros que agora não me lembro...o povo aqui morre de rir quando eu me expresso através destes sinais. Um dia eu ainda vou perder este meu hábito totalmente, acredito eu, simplesmente porque não significa absolutamente nada aqui:(

One thing that is very common in Brasil, and here people find funny and they don't understand at all, is when I talk by the signals. In Brasil if we want to say "I don't know", instead of saying it we just shake our shoulders and the other person will know what do that means. When we open and close the fingers of one hand few times quite fast that means "the place was packed"; beating one hand against the other few times means "it doesn't matter", picking your ear means that something is excellent. There is many of others signs that I can't remember right now...people laugh very hard here, in AU, when I do some of these signs...One day I'll lose this funny brazilian habit, just because it doesn't mean anything once I'm not in Brazil:(

Priscilla Rainha do Deserto

Fantástico!!!! ontem fui assistir o musical "priscilla rainha do deserto", como no filme, trata-se do universo gay, é sobre a discriminação, a intolerância e o amor; é muuuuuito engraçado, é tocante e envolvente. os figurinos são super extravagantes, criativos e coloridérrimos com níveis e tons de cores fuorescentes e escandalosas. Ma-ra-vi-lho-so!!!! as músicas são excelentes, bem gays mesmo, e certamente vocês conhecem todas!! rs... Os 3:30min de vídeo abaixo mostra parte do musical que durou duas horas, fabuloso!!!!



Yesterday I went to watch the musical "Priscilla the queen of the desert" it was fantastic!! I loved it:) just like the movie, it is all about discrimination, intolerance and love. It is veeeeeery funny, it is touching, creative, entertaining and the extravaganza of costumes in all its colorful levels was amazing. The music and songs were all so gay you would know all of it:) I've had a lots of fun!!! it is worth to watch the vídeo and then you'll understand better why I enjoyed it so much:)

Incesto: é imoral, é ilegal mas e daí??

O assunto que mais ouvi hoje no rádio, no trem, no trabalho foi sobre o casal que vive no sul da Austrália e que são pai e filha vivendo uma vida normal de casados.

A garota, chamada jenny, 39 anos, conheceu o pai dela, john, 61 anos, pela primeira vez quando ela tinha 31 anos e no terceiro encontro eles tiveram relação sexual e se firmaram num relacionamento homem mulher que já dura há 8 anos. Tiveram um filho que morreu no primeiro dia de vida por problemas congênitos e então tiveram uma segunda filha que hoje tem 9 meses e parece saudável.

Eu já tinha ouvido vários casos de pais que têem relacionamento sexual com filhas mas todos eram por abuso, nunca soube de algo assim em que os dois estão felizes juntos e é algo recíproco.

Este tipo de relacionamento é ilegal aqui na austrália e agora que o segredo deles foi revelado eles serão monitorados e foram sentenciados a não terem relações sexuais, mas se eles moram juntos quem é que vai se certificar de que estão ou não cumprindo a sentença? e o que o homem falou na entrevista: "Eu sei que trata-se de algo ilegal, imoral, mas e daí??" e eu fiquei pensando...e daí mesmo, se os dois são adultos, consideram-se felizes e querem estar um com o outro o que é que a justiça deve fazer? prendê-los?.

O curioso é que com este caso vindo à tona vários outros começaram a surgir retratando isto como uma situação muito mais comum do que a sociedade imagina. Eu acho isto bastante confuso.

Incest, it is illegal, it is immoral but so what??
A case of incest has made headlines in Australia, after a man and his daughter revealed that they had had a child together. The baby girl is now 9 months old and is their second together, after a son died in 2001 a few days after his birth due to congenital heart defects. John Deaves, 61, and his 39-year-old daughter Jenny can no longer engage in sexual relations, after a court sentenced them to three years of probation. The case came to the media's attention when the couple appeared on the talk show 60 Minutes on the Nine TV network to tell the story of their relationship, which began 8 years ago when the two were reunited. John Deaves left his family when Jenny was only 1, and the two hadn't seen each other for 30 years. She was married and had two children when she saw her father again. However, a few weeks after meeting the two began having sexual relations which, according to psychologists, is called "a genetic sexual attraction". "We are intelligent adults who have had a career and a normal life and, though we are biologically related, we fell in love when we found each other again," Jenny said on television. The little girl born of the relation between the two is perfectly healthy, as are the two previous children born to the woman. However, witness statements which surfaced during the trial show that the couple had also had another child in 2001, who died of heart problems. In drawing up the sentence, the judge took into account the congenital risks to children born of an incestuous relationship, as well as the psychological consequences of such an unusual family situation. For me it is a very confusing case. I never ever heard about such thing. They are two adults (father and daughter) and happy together so what? Now they have got 3 years probation and are not suppost to have sex, who is going to control them once they live together?? I think sometimes the justice is wierd. What should the judge do? send them to jail? In my opinion it is just not fair at all:(

William Ricketts Sanctuary

Um dos lugares que sempre tive curiosidade de visitar era o santuário de William Rickett, Localizado nas montanhas de Dandenong, a 1h de Melbourne. Ir até as montanhas em si já é um passeio bacana com suas estreitas ruas cobertas pelas copas das árvores e com vários vilarejos (meu preferido chama-se Olinda) com pousadas, lojinhas, cafeterias e de quebra uma vista maravilhosa da mata fechada e da cidade lá em baixo:) O santuário é algo que eu poderia descrever como uma galeria de esculturas ao ar livre, são 92 esculturas em cerâmica, de aborigenes e animais, espalhadas pelo parque que parecem sair de dentro da natureza, parecem brotar das árvores, das pedras é algo ímpar e que eu prometo levar lá quem vier me visitar, rs...


William Rickett foi o escultor quem comprou o terreno e criou este lugar que ele costumava chamar de "sagrado, secreto, silencioso". Ele dedicou a vida dele a tribos aborígenes, aos animais e a natureza. Pelo que passei a conhecer sobre ele me deu a impressão de ter sido uma pessoa de valores bem místicos e com um talento incrível.

"Sacred - Secret - Silent" is how william rickett used to call this place, a sanctuary created by him in the dandenong mountains, 1h from melbourne. Going to the mountain is already a very nice escape, finding this sanctuary was a bonus!! there is 92 ceramic sculptures in the park among the rocks, trees and watch out your steps...the sculptures are everywhere:) This guy lived his whole life in aborigines tribes and he dedicated his life to them and to the wild life. For me seems like he had very strong mistical values and a big talent. Come to visit me and I'll take you there:) I've taken these photos from my mobile phone because I forgot to take my camera with me and I was happily surprised that they didn't come out so bad...I Hope you enjoy it:)
