Jessica Watson - Que Coragem!!!

Eu tenho acompanhado o blog da australiana de 16 anos de idade, Jessica Watson, que está indo atrás do sonho dela de se tornar a pessoa mais jovem a dar a volta ao mundo; velejando sozinha, sem parar, e sem assistência... ãh??? sem parar?? sem assistência? sozinha?? num "barquinho" a vela?? nuh!!!!! a minha opinião pessoal é de que soa muuuuuuuuuuuito perigoso mas não deixa de ser excitante e inspirador ver alguém tão, tão, tão jovem com tanta coragem.

Há algumas semanas ela partiu de Sydney e esta "manchinha" cor de rosa no mapa é a localização atual de onde ela está, bem na região da ilha de Samoa, indo em direção ao Chile. A viagem toda deve ser feita por volta de 8 meses. Como o objetivo dela é não parar, o barco foi estocado com comida e água suficiente para toda viagem. Muito enlatado, leite e ovo em pó, nem sabia que isso existia, ovo em pó?

Antes dela iniciar a aventura solo em volta ao mundo; ela fez uma viagem de 10 dias para testar equipamentos, barco etc e, enquanto estava tirando uma soneca, o barco bateu num navio enorme, de 60 mil toneladas pondo, assim, em dúvida, a habilidade e experiência dela:( Foi um susto e um fuzuê na mídia, muita gente sugerindo que o governo, ao contrário dos pais dela, deveria impedir a tal aventura de volta ao mundo. O governo não se intrometeu nisso e hoje muita gente (como eu) virou expectador da menina:)

I've been following the blog of the Australian girl, 16-year-old, Jessica Watson, who is going after her dream of becoming the youngest person to circumnavigate the world, sailing alone, without stopping and without assistance ... uh?? nonstop? no assistance? alone? wow!!! My personal opinion is that sounds far too dangerous but it is still exciting and inspiring to see someone so, so, so young with so much courage. No question that she has got the guts!!!!

A few weeks ago she left Austrália from Sydney. The pink mark on the map (see picture) is the current location of where she is. She is at the region of the island of Samoa, heading toward to Chile - south america. The entire trip should be around 8 months. Because her goal is not to stop, the boat was stocked with enough food and water for the whole trip. Lots of canned food, powdered milk and egg, did not even know it existed, powered egg?

Here in Australia, a lots of people were agaisnt Jessica's round the world solo trip; people were expecting the government to stop her dreams, what didn't happen. I reckon that her parents are very brave as well and must have the emotional strenght to support her to meet her goals... I couldn't pic myself doing it to Sofia:(

Spring Carnival

O Spring Carnival tem 4 dias que são notáveis, o Derby Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Oaks Day e Stakes Day. Cada um desses dias tem um foco, tem o dia da família (Stakes Day), o dia das ladies o dia em que as mulheres se vestem de preto e branco e pra cada dia o homem tem um tipo de flor pra usar na lapela do terno. Acontece, também, o que eles chamam de "fashion on the field"; qualquer pessoa pode se registrar e desfilar para concorrer a prêmios bem interessantes como uma viagem a Dubai ou um lexus zero:) Neste desfile será julgado quem está mais bem vestido de acordo com as categorias existentes.
A aglomeração de gente é enorme, milhares de pessoas vão ao jockey club. Usam o trem, os bondes, vão de carro, de barco e até de helicópetero, pasme!!!!
Agora tem também aqueles que tentam bancar o engraçado né?


E aqueles que, pecam pelo excesso e, simplesmente, perdem a elegância no caminho, rs....

The Spring Carnival has 4 remarkable days: Derby Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Oaks Day and Stakes Day; each one of these days has a focus, there is Family Day (Stakes Day), the ladies day, the guys day (women dress up in black and white); for every day the man has one type of flower for wearing on his suit. There is also the fashion competition called "fashion on the field", anyone can register to compete in it and win interesting prizes as a trip to Dubai or a brand new lexus:) this show will be judged which is best dress according to the existing categories.
The agglomeration of people is huge, thousands of people go to the horse racing. They use the train, trams, go by car, boat and even by Helicopter.

Now is also those who try to play the funny right? (see the second picture)
And those who, probably drink too much and, seems like they are also in a competition "fail on the field" (see the third picture):)))))

Melbourne Cup

A primeira terça feira do mês de novembro é a terça feira mais famosa da Austrália. Mesmo sendo feriado só em Melbourne (aliás acho que em Canberra também é) os australianos, estejam aonde estiverem, páram para acompanhar pela TV, rádio, jornal e apostarem na corrida de cavalos mais famosa, a Melbourne Cup.

Sem querer entrar na parte técnica, que eu nem entendo bem, TODOS os dias do ano acontece corrida de cavalos em alguma parte da Austrália, mas, entre setembro e novembro, aqui em Melbourne, acontece o grande evento chamado "Spring carnival".

O "Spring Carnival" é como se fosse a copa do mundo de futebol com todos os times sendo "filtrados" até chegarem na Melbourne Cup, que é a final pra ver quem leva a taça e título de vencedor, portanto, a Melbourne Cup é a corrida mais importante. Nesta corrida compete os melhores jóckeys de toda a temporada e acontece às 3 da tarde desta famosa terça feira (hoje) com duração de uns 3 min. É obvio que este evento envolve muita grana, no ano passado o prêmio foi de 5,5 milhões de dólares para o vencedor:)

Eu fico BOBA de ver as filas que vão até do lado de fora dos pubs para as pessoas apostarem, acredito que até aqueles que não são muito de apostas (como eu) neste dia apostam. Existe a opção de apostar pelo telefone e pela internet:) Eu acabei de chegar de um pub...apostei $100 e ganhei $25:( ano passado lembro que apostei $10 ganhei $111. Deve ter sido sorte de principiante...

Próximo Post eu tento falar sobre a parte "fashion" deste mega evento que faz Melbourne parar. É um show!!


The first Tuesday of November is the most famous Tuesday in Australia. Even though only holiday in Melbourne (in fact I think that is also in Canberra) the Australians, are where they are, stop for follow the races on TV, radio, newspaper and place a bet on the most famous horse racing, the Melbourne Cup.

Every day of the year there is horse racing happening somewhere in Australia, but between September and November, here in Melbourne, it happens the big event called "Spring Carnival". The Melbourne Cup is the most important day of this event, it is only 1 race, which takes place at 3 pm in this famous Tuesday(today). In this race (which takes about 3 min) the best jockeys of the spring carnival and their horses are competing in the Melbourne Cup. It is obvious that this event involves a lot of money, last year the prize was 5.5 million dollars for the winner:)

I'm amazed to see the lines going up outside the pubs for people to place their bets, I believe that even those who do not used to bet (like me) is betting for Mel cup racing. There is the option to bet over the phone or internet:) I just got back from a pub ... I bet $100 and won $25, yes I'm a loser!!! I remember last year I bet $10 and won $111. It must have been just a beginner's luck ...

Eu já não sei mais o que fazer para que Sofia durma no quarto dela:( Desde que ela nasceu ela dorme no nosso quarto, eu comprei um mini berço e este já não a cabe mais. Ela não só chora mas faz um ESCÂNDALO quando eu a coloco no berço normal, no quarto dela. Ela chora um choro diferente, de pavor...eu já tentei ignorar e deixá-la sozinha mas vai ficando exaustivo o choro e eu a "resgato" de lá.

Agora, o que eu não entendo é que ela dorme em qualquer outro lugar...tipo no chão da sala, no quarto de visitas, no carro, no meu colo, no carrinho, na casa dos outros...como pode ela não aceitar dormir no quarto dela? Alguém aí teria alguma dica pra mim? please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!



Since Sofia was born she has been sleeping in my room. I've bought that little cribb and it doesn't fit her anymore. I've been trying to move her to her room but she cries a lot, it is a different kind of crying, sounds like she is really scared. I've tried to ignore her but she gets too exausted and I always ended up taking her back to my bed:(

What I don't get is that she is able to sleep anywhere but in her cot. She sleeps in the lounge floor, in the car, in the guest room, in my arms, in people's house, why can't she be settle in her own room? I don't get it! Jana, you've been working for many years with babies, have you got any tips for me? have you ever experienced it? I would appreciate your help:)

Happy Dog Halloween!!!

Achei o máximo quando um grupo de crianças, fantasiadas para halloween, bateram na minha porta ontem com o famoso "treat or trick" e trouxeram o cachorro delas também fantasiado:) muuuuuuuuuuuuito bacana, fiquei imaginando a diversão dessa criançada. O cachorro que veio aqui em casa estava com uma faca atravessando a cabeça, haahahaha...

Fui dar uma olhada online e vi que tem várias opções de fantasias super legais (bizarras) para cachorro.



It was awesome when some kids knocked my door yesterday with the famous "treat or trick" and they brought they dog along in a costume as well. The dog had a knife crossing its head, hahahhahha....the kids seemed like having a lots of fun!! I was checking online and found out that there is a quite few options for a dog costume.
Halloween in austrália (and, I guess, like in any other country) is far smaller than america, I don't think so the kids would take seriously the "treat or trick", there is no pumpkins in front of the houses and I've never seen people going to work in their costumes:( I really enjoyed the halloween time in america. In Brazil we don't celebrate it at all:(

Festa de Aniversário Australiana

Enfim fomos na tal festinha aussie. Foi suuuuuuuuuuuuuper bacana! Muita golouseima, salgadinhos, mini sanduíches, balas, biscoitinhos salgados e o bolo que eu achei liiiiiiiiiiiiindo (vejam a foto), essa cara de porco cor de rosa, ameeeeeeeeeeeeei!! a aí a aniversariante, Indiana, completando 2 aninhos.



Curiosidades:
* A festa estava marcada para 11 da manhã de uma segunda feira;
* Eu e Sofia fomos as últimas a chegar, 11:20am;
* O convite foi via messagem por celular (hahahaha);
* Entre os convidados, somente mulheres com seus filhotes (vários filhotes)
* Eles não batem palmas pra cantar o parabéns:(
* Não tinha um som ligado com músicas infantis
* Não tinha balões

Eu achei tudo lindo, fofo:)

***I finally got the right day to take Sofia to the b-day party. It was fun:) The little girl, called Indiana, was turning 2 and I absolutely loved the pink pig face cake, how cool? I noticed some diferences between the aussie kids party and brazilian party...here they don't clap to sing happy b-day, in Brazil we do! I don't remember being in a brazilian party without the music on, here it is very rare. This party was on monday at 11am and just mums with their kids were invited, in Brazil the parties are always on weekends and the whole family is usually invited and there is alcohol for adults. The kids were having a lots of fun! I really enjoyed it, it was different for me in few aspects but still fun! I was glad to be there:)

Depois de 2h me aprontando e aprontando Sofia para irmos numa festinha de aniversário, coloco tudo no carro, me certifico de que não esqueci nada, endereço no GPS, tudo pronto. Pat ainda ajeitando ela no banco de trás eu ligo o carro e tóin, olho pro Pat e digo:




A festa não é hoje.
Ele: o quê?
Eu: A festa é dia 05/10

ô gente...eu tô louca?? fui me certificar a data e realmente eu estava nada mais nada menos que 8 dias adiantada. Que-sensação-terrível-de-frustação-burrice-cansaço-I'm-losing-my-mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eu nunca precisei de agenda, nunca usei uma, sempre tive facilidade de guardar datas, nomes, números, rostos e acontecimentos com detalhes. Desde que engravidei cometi vários vacilos que antes nunca me ocorreu, tipo guardar o leite no armário ao invés da geladeira, me trancar do lado de fora de casa, ligar pra alguém pra dizer algo que eu já tinha dito, aff... eu sei que dizem que a mulher depois que engravida fica assim "meio burra". Gente...socorro!!! quero me livrar disso, quero voltar ser a Polly de antes!!!! Ainda bem que Sofia ainda é novinha e não entende as coisas, imagina se ela tem 2 anos, como que eu iria explicar pra ela que a festa não era naquele dia? hahahahaha!!!!

After 2 hours getting ready to go to a birthday party with Sofia, I put everything in the car, make sure that have not forgotten anything, address in the GPS, all ready. Pat still adjusting the little girl in her car seat, I look at him and say:

The party is not today.
He: What?
I: The party is on oct 05

am I going crazy? I could NOT beleive in my mistake. What a awful-sensation-of-frustration, dumb-tired-I'm-losing-my-mind !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never needed to use an agenda before, I always found easy to keep dates, names, numbers and faces in my mind. Since I got pregnant I've made several mistakes that never occurred to me before, like put the milk in the cupboard instead of the refrigerator, locking myself outside the home, call someone to say something I had said, aff ... I know they say that after the woman becomes pregnant it is commom to feel this way, D-U-M-B! The good thing is that Sofia doesn't understand what's going on, can you imagine if she was 2y and I had to explain her my mistake and we were not going to any party that day?
